site updates

2026-04-21

i've been meaning to do something more with this site for a while. it was just a homepage with some links which, fine, that's a valid choice but i kept wanting somewhere to put things. so i finally sat down and actually built it out.

the main thing i added is a navbar. the active page gets a little > prefix which i like a lot. keeping everything lowercase and monospaced, same as the rest of the site.

alongside the nav i made three new pages. this blog, obviously. a records page that pulls from my discogs collection, cover art, artist, format, filterable by vinyl or cassette. and a music page that hits the last.fm api and shows my top artists, albums, and tracks for whatever time period you pick. if i'm actively scrobbling it also shows what's currently playing at the top.

the blog is dead simple, just html files in a posts/ folder, with a posts.json index that the blog listing page reads to build the list.

i also made the whole layout full-width. the original site had a 500px centered column which worked fine for just text but felt wrong once there were grids of record covers to fill. now it's edge-to-edge with 60px padding, and the prose sections cap at 620px so it doesn't become unreadable on a wide monitor.

anyway. more posts eventually, probably about rice and records and whatever else.
